Flexible Spending Account and Lasik

Use the tax advantages of a Flexible Savings Account when you purchase Lasik, All-Laser Lasik, PRK, LASEK, Epi-Lasik, CK, RLE, and P-IOL

Around 90 percent of employees work for companies who offer a Flexible Spending Account (FSA, Flex Account) to help lower net healthcare costs. FSAs allow you to use pretax income on medical expenses including deductibles co-payments and medical expenses not normally covered by medical insurance like eyeglasses, refractive surgery, even aspirin and bandages.

No Federal dollar limits apply, but most employers set maximum annual contribution level; usually around $5,000. Your employer will deduct a contribution to your FSA from your pretax income with each paycheck. You will decide how much.

The one major caveat to FSAs is the "use it or lose it" provision. All of the FSA money set aside must be used during that same year. If not used, it cannot be rolled over into the next year and you actually lose the money. You'll need to do a little planning to decide how much you want set aside from your paycheck to fund out-of-pocket medical expenses. Talk with your employer's human resources department about your company's FSA.

If you are ready to choose a doctor to be evaluated for conventional or custom wavefront Lasik, All-Laser Lasik, PRK, LASEK, Epi-Lasik, NearVision CK, RLE, or any refractive surgery procedure, we highly recommend you consider a doctor who has been evaluated and certified by the USAEyes nonprofit organization. Locate a USAEyes Evaluated & Certified Lasik Laser Eye Surgery Doctor.
